Professional speaker Sachi Koto, a former CNN news anchor, knows all about overcoming the fear of public speaking. She realized the power of her voice even as a child.
Growing up in post World War II as a Japanese American, Sachi was determined to speak clearly and without a dialect. As a young girl, she was often called-on to read out loud in Sunday School and church services. Through these initially frightening experiences, she gradually gained confidence and began to enjoy the opportunities to speak and give presentations in front of people.
In college, Sachi focused on a career in communications. She got her first broadcast job as a news reporter on WQXI radio station in Atlanta. Then, she moved on to Channel 5 television news and as an anchor at JCTV Network – the CNN Affiliate Network in Tokyo, Japan. Eventually, Sachi became the first Japanese American to anchor on CNN.
Now, Sachi embraces every opportunity to speak in public. And, what’s her favorite subject? Teaching others to use the power of their voice to communicate in the most effective way possible. Sachi speaks around the world to students, corporate leaders, and government officials.
In order to create a bigger impact and help more people realize their full potential, Sachi packed her inspiring and educational presentation into this DVD. It’s an hour and ten minutes of story telling, advice, inspiration, tips, and strategy all focused on making you the very best public speaker you can be.
Sachi believes public speaking isn’t just standing at a podium. It’s also meeting one-on-one with a client or interviewing for a job. The strategies Sachi teaches go far beyond the podium.
She outlines what you’ll have to do to continuously improve your speaking skills. Watching this DVD won’t be a one time lesson. In order to use this effectively, you’ll need to watch it again and again – becoming a continuous process. Speak, engage, assess, and watch the DVD again. Then repeat. Learning to speak to your full potential doesn’t happen overnight. It is, like anything else, an ongoing pursuit.
This will be the single best investment you will ever make. Use it. Watch it. Share it with those you love. Then, watch the seeds of your efforts pay off as you aspire to greater heights.
A few quotes to consider.
“You’ve got to be able to communicate in life and it’s enormously important. Schools, to some extent, under emphasize that. If you can’t communicate and talk to other people and get across your ideas, you’re giving up your potential.” – Warren Buffet, who enrolled in a Dale Carnegie course on public speaking when he started his career in investments.
“You’re only as successful as your ideas. Landing a dream job, persuading investors, inspiring employees, and attracting customers all require the effective transmission of those ideas. Don’t let your nerves get in the way of achieving your full potential. More important, if you recognize that your nerves are a problem, take bold steps today to bring them under control so they enhance—and not harm—your career. – Carmine Gallo, Forbes columnist on leadership.
“Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“It usually takes me more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech.” – Mark Twain
“A good orator is pointed and impassioned.” – Marcus T. Cicero
